Abstract

Laterite nickel is a sediment formed by weathering and leaching of peridotite rocks so that the levels and thickness of the layers are not uniformly distributed. The purpose of this study is to determine the stages in the correlation of laterite nickel drilling layers and to determine the direction and distribution of the thickness of laterite nickel. Prior to data collection, direct field conditions were observed. This research data consists of data taken from the field in the form of coordinate data, elevation data and log data from the results of this drilling data taken by describing each layer of results of drilling. Data processing is done in the form of a correlation of layers from the elevation point of each layer with a different thickness for each layer. The study distribution maps were established using the 3D kriging interpolation method. At PT. Vale Indonesia Pomalaa Branch divides the nickel laterite layers into three parts, namely limonite, saprolite and bedrock. Of the 12 correlated drill points, there were 3 correlations in the north-south direction, 5 in the west-east direction, 4 in the northwest direction and 5 in the northeast-south-west direction. The saprolite layer is the layer with the highest Ni content between the saprolite and bedrock layers. Drill points with a thickness of more than 5 meters saprolite there are 4 points. The saprolite layers in the study area are distributed in the West. The correlation of the layers is carried out in several stages, namely logging, the carrying out of transverse cuts, then the correlation from the results of drilling of this stage can be determined as the saprolite layer with a thickness of more than 5 m is dispersed in the northwest area of the study area.
