Abstract

Hauling road conditions has an important role to facilate operate transport equipment and streamline the working time at PT XXX Ketapang Regency. Soil as a material in mining roads has the potential strength as a supporting force to withstand the load of the vehicle above. On mining roads, if the strength of the soil material is not greater than the load of the transportation equipment, it can result in the transportation equipment not operating optimally and can reduce mining production and even cause work accidents. The purposes of this research are (1) to determine the characteristics of the soil on the bauxite mine haul road, (2) determine the percentage of potential soil strength based on the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test, and (3) to provide recommendations for improving soil strength on the bauxite mine haul road. PT XXX. The research method used is a quantitative research method. Research data consists of primary data and secondary data. Primary data were obtained from the results of soil physical properties test and CBR test in the laboratory. Meanwhile, secondary data consists of a description of the research location and references from previous studies as supporting data to strengthen the analysis and discussion. The results showed that the soil on the PT XXX bauxite mine haul road in Ketapang Regency had good characteristics for subgrade. From the three tested soil samples, it is known that the first soil sample (SA-T1) has a design CBR value that is smaller than the other samples, 2.50%. Sample SA-T1 is classified as very poor soil. The design CBR value for SA-T2 is 14.00%, and the design CBR value for SA-T3 is 10.00%, these two samples are categorized as poor to fair soil. According to the usability classification, the three samples can be used as subgrade on haul roads. Several efforts can be made to increase soil strength on haul roads, including compacting and soil stabilization.
