Abstract

Iron sand is a sand deposit containing iron particles found along the coast formed due to destruction by weather, water, and waves against the original rock. The presence of iron sand on Galesong Beach, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi Province is quite promising to be utilized but has never been characterized. This study aims to determine the mineral content and magnetic susceptibility of the iron sand of Galesong Beach. The method used is X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis for the type and mineral content and determining magnetic susceptibility using a Magnetic Susceptibility Meter. The results showed that the iron sands in the study area were composed of minerals calcium magnesium, quartz, hornblende, biotite, siderite, magnetite, and hematite with Fe2O3 levels in the sample SB-1 and sample SB-2, which were 19.89% and 17.32%, respectively. magnetic susceptibility between 68.51 x 10-5 m3kg-1 – 151.06 x 10-5 m3kg-1.
