Abstract

Granite rocks are acid igneous rocks that are widely found on Bangka Island. This study was conducted to determine the effect of rock physical properties on the uniaxial compressive strength of granite rocks. The research was carried out by physical properties testing and uniaxial compressive strength testing. Analysis of the physical properties of the rock was carried out to determine the dimensions of size, density, natural water content, porosity, and degree of saturation, while the analysis of the mechanical properties of the rock was to obtain the UCS value. By testing the physical properties and uniaxial compressive strength of granite, it was obtained that the natural density, dry density, and saturated density had a negative correlation with porosity. The higher the porosity, the smaller the density value. Granite rock samples have low porosity with an average of 3.49%, natural density of 2.48 gr/cm3, dry density of 2.45 gr/cm3 and saturated density of 2.49 gr/cm3, natural water content an average of 1.29% and the degree of saturation is 90.31%. The parameters of the physical properties that most affect the uniaxial compressive strength are porosity and natural water content. The porosity value more influenced the UCS value with R2 is 0.9033 and the water content more influenced the Young's Modulus value with R2 is 0.8602. The greater the porosity and natural water content contained, the less the strength of the rock.
