Abstract

Coal in Kadingeh Village, Baraka Sub-district, Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi Province is geographically located at coordinates 03o28’32” South Latitude dan 119o52’41” East Longitude and is included in the rank category of Subbituminous coal. It is proved by analysis results that have been done. Microscopic analysis shows that there are two dominant minerals such as clay and pyrite. While the results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of Kadingeh Village coal show the content of minerals such as quartz, goethite, illite, and pyrite. The results of coal quality analysis show the average percentage of Inheren Moisture (IM) range from 9.75%- 11.17, Ash content from 3.54%-8.42%, Fixed Carbon range from 53.09%-61.45% and Volatile Matter (VM) range from 25.26%-27.32%, total sulphur content range from 0.15%-0.21%, calorific value range from 5366.06 kcal/kg-6164.59% kcal/kg. Based on coal classification according to ASTM (1981), the most economical Kadingeh Village coal used in industry namely SE-IIC and SE-IIB is classified as Subbituminous A, while SE-IIA is classified as Subbituminous B.
