Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the blasting geometry that was applied in the
company and compared with theoritical geometry calculations according to (Ash, R.L., 1963)
and (Konya, C.J., 1995) and to know the resulting size of overburden fragmentation. In this
research was used Kuz-Ram method to estimate fragmentation size theoretically, while to
measure the actual fragmentation was used photographic methods with the help of
splitdesktop program. Blasting geometry that was applied in the company are burden 8 m,
spacing 9 m, stemming 5.5 m, subdrilling 0.5 m and maximum hole depth is 11.5 m for the
ANFO explosives, while the use of emulsion explosives are burden 9 m, spacing 10 m,
stemming 5.5 m, subdrilling 0.5 m, and maximum hole depth is 11.5 m. The predicted of
fragmentation size by Kuz-Ram method shows that the design of blasting that was applied in
the company will result the fragmentation size greater than 1 meter on average 14.5% for the
blasting in the high wall area, while for the low wall area will result the fragmentation size
greater than 1 meter on average 6.6% each blasting. While the calculation results of the
actual fragmentation size using split desktop found that the fragmentation size of the blasting
are ± 90% smaller than 75 cm.
